Waymo's Robotaxis Now Cover 15 U.S. Cities, Serving 500,000 Rides a Week

Sep 27, 2026 · by Omeed · 30 reads 0 likes

Waymo's robotaxi service now operates commercially in 15 U.S. cities, up from just three — Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco — as recently as September 2024, with most of the newer launches happening in the past year alone.

The expansion has pushed ridership up sharply: Waymo is now averaging more than 500,000 paid robotaxi rides every week, a tenfold increase from the roughly 50,000 weekly rides it reported in May 2024. Beyond its original three markets, the company has added service in Austin, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando, among other cities.

The rapid scale-up marks a shift for the driverless-car industry from cautious, city-by-city pilots to something closer to a genuine transportation network, and puts pressure on rivals to show they can match Waymo's pace of both geographic expansion and rider trust.
