OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and 100+ Companies Call for Stronger AI Cyber Defense

OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and more than 100 other technology and financial-services organizations have signed an open letter urging companies and governments to make cyber defense "an immediate leadership priority" as AI models grow more capable of both attacking and defending software systems.

The letter calls on signatories to fix existing weaknesses in their own software rather than waiting for regulation, framing the moment as a narrowing window: as frontier models get better at finding and exploiting vulnerabilities, the same capabilities need to be turned toward defense faster than they spread to attackers.

The announcement lands alongside other AI-safety coordination moves this month, including Google's A2A protocol formally joining the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation on August 20 — bringing it under the same neutral governance as Anthropic's Model Context Protocol, with the foundation now counting AWS, Anthropic, Block, Bloomberg, Cloudflare, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI among its 250+ members.
